Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday, already. Tomorrow. Wow. I know I promised I would get back on track with my Write the Dream’s post, but …. realizing that the holiday is just hours away, it got me thinking about gratitude in general - and how commercialized the holiday has become - and how I wish I could just opt out.
Don’t get me wrong - over the years, I have enjoyed getting together with family and friends to celebrate all that I am thankful for - but yet, I don’t think it is necessary to have a holiday that tells you that this is the day we give thanks - especially when history books have got it wrong all along. A long-held tradition, that used to hold a heartfelt meaning along with a good meal and company has been construed on so many levels. Don’t get me started - Black Friday and Cyber Monday - Christmas even has its hold on Thanksgiving. I walked into Lowe’s the other day and felt like I had unwillingly travelled to the North Pole. It’s just too much. And I realized that Thanksgiving has been ushered aside to make room for Santa Claus. Commercially!! It is way too much.
Maybe it is a good thing, I mean, shouldn’t we be celebrating Thanksgiving everyday - without all the hoopla? Shouldn’t we be willing to open our hearts and give thanks (aside from the dinner table routine) to be grateful for life)?
I asked my higher self and my guides what it really means to be grateful and their thoughts on the holiday and here is what they say about it:
It is okay that you want to opt out of what you consider a silly holiday. You have the free will to do and say and think what you want to think. But remember, giving thanks is more than just a holiday set aside. It is an act of love for yourself and others that brings you peace. And yes, it should be celebrated everyday - from the moment you wake to the moment you fall asleep giving thanks for everything. But, do not judge the process of others. There are those who set aside the day to give thanks for all the bigger things in their lives but forget the little things that contribute to the bigger things. It is as you say - hoopla. Hoopla for the masses. But with all the thanksgiving going on in all the hearts of true, there is a magnificent shift that occurs for the planet. A brief, yet colossal shift that benefits the healing across the globe. So, the holiday is not a failure, it is a blessing if you can see it that way. Opt out if you wish - opt out of all the silliness that is too much for you, but do not opt out of the gratitude that you give everyday on this day. Be thankful for the day where unity is present, where work is set aside and many of hearts are opened to recognize just how blessed they are despite the gloom and doom that is being projected on so many paths. Gratitude is a component key to love. A component key to prosperity, a component key to joy and for the willingness of staying in the oneness that is all and will ever be.
That is it. Do not forget to tell someone you are thankful for them, do not forget to say thank you to the trees, the birds, your body, the food you eat, the house you are celebrating in… and so on. And do not just do it tomorrow, do it every day! Make every day a Thankful Celebration.
Thank you - all of you - for your ongoing support - I am so very grateful for all of you, and remember to Be love, always, be love.
